JOBS
Everything on Omega has a price, and it’s no different for its newest residents. If your character wants to get anywhere on the station, they’re going to need to find some way to pull their weight and make themselves useful.

We organize jobs in levels. Characters start out with a Level 0 job, and can work their way up towards Level 3 from there -- or buy a higher position if they’ve got the funds.

LEVEL 0

Upon arrival, all characters are assigned the position of repair worker and assigned to a damaged area close to their residence. This position provides a minimal salary -- enough to pay Aria for protection and feed yourself, but not much else. If the work isn’t completed, you don’t get paid. Characters with Level 0 jobs will find it hard to purchase anything of note.

LEVEL 1

Low-level civilian work falls under this level -- anything that will pay a decent living wage, but nothing to write home about. Shop clerks, food service, janitorial work, construction, mine worker -- there’s plenty of opportunity on Omega, so long as you’ve got the work ethic to go along with it. When the merc groups are looking for more bodies to throw at their enemies, they’ll open themselves up, but you're not going to be able to get in at this level otherwise. If you’re not interested in working with others, you can always offer your services as a freelancer -- so long as you find someone willing to pay.

Keep in mind that once you’ve left Aria’s protection, you’re going to have to pay someone else for it -- or pay her a higher fee to keep the other mercs off you. It won't take long for the merc groups to discover you're without it, and you'll have to pick one of them to pay off if you want to survive.

LEVEL 2

These jobs come about in one of two ways: either you’ve worked your way up, or someone’s noticed you and given you a leg up. This could be by showing skills that interests a group on the station, such as the merc groups on the station or an information broker looking for a new agent. If you want to keep things legal, there are plenty of manufacturers and corporations that do business on Omega. If you want to start your own merc group, you’ll need enough bodies to protect yourselves from rival groups shutting you down. Or, if you're interested in less-risk pursuits, you can open your own establishment once you've amassed enough capital for it, like your own shop or restaurant.

Once again, if you’re not in a merc group or have someone sponsoring you, you’ll have to put up the credits for sufficient protection. A job at this level gives you a decent amount of spending money, though -- if you’re willing to put up with the life-or-death risks that might be associated with it.

LEVEL 3

This is where the stakes get high -- you’ll make much more money, but you’re just about guaranteed to have a target painted on your back. At Level 3, you’ll find yourself embroiled in the endless battle to topple Omega’s hierarchy, and unless you choose sides with someone willing to help you out, you won’t last long. The major players of Omega will know your name or your associates’, and you’re as likely to get caught up in their business as you are to end up on the wrong end of a gun. You’ll have access to the finest things Omega has to offer, so long as you can keep your neck. You might be on the higher tiers of a merc group, a new information broker coming onto the scene, or even someone looking to get in with Omega's politicians. Whatever it is, you'd better prepare yourself.

MERCENARY STATUS
Tensions are running high among the mercenary groups, but the Blue Suns have the upper hand right now. The ranks of both the Blood Pack and the Talons are currently diminished.
TALONS OPEN RECRUITMENT
ECLIPSE SPONSORED RECRUITMENT
BLUE SUNS SPONSORED RECRUITMENT
BLOOD PACK OPEN RECRUITMENT

how do you keep track of money?

We don’t. We’re mods, not bankers. The actual numbers involved are handwaved; you can assume that your character’s wage reflects the work they do. You do need to be realistic about it; your character is not going to move into a private penthouse if all they do is repair work.

what about npcs?

We leave most of that up to you. We do play some NPCs, but there’s no way for us to cover every last alien on the station. You’re free to interact with the setting as you’d like. For example, you can have your character lose a bet with a krogan and have to work off the debt, or offer to smuggle goods for an elcor in exchange for a nominal fee, or fall in with a gang or vorcha. Additionally, if you want your character to have a sponsor for recruitment into a mercenary group but there aren't any PCs available to sponsor, you can request an NPC sponsor in your job request.

Obviously, abuse of the system will result in mod action, but the goal is fun, not micromanagement.

If you’d like your character to advance to a higher level, please fill out this form. If you have any questions not answered here, use the FAQ or speak to a mod.

Current level + job: 0 + IDK. Larissa help.
New level + job: 1? Or still 0? IDK. Larissa help. Also job wise -- creeper/information broker.
How are they getting this job? Plot request & IC request. tl;dr essentially Lisbeth & Aria made a one off trade on information versus getting left the fuck alone. I don't necessarily think this constitutes as a job, but I would like it to be made available as a plot point/means of getting CR just because Lisbeth would be keeping track of what goes around and also would be around as a PC for anyone who needed stuff looked into on their own.

So as of right now she would be reporting to Aria for anything out of the ordinary, which can be handwaved. There will not be any regular reports because that's not Lisbeth's MO, but rather we can say in the first week or so she started to compile information, and by the end of February handed off a generically boring information rap sheet. I'm only posting this now to get it out of the way before I forget. Eventually, what I plan for her in this position is to start talking, getting a feel for the PCs and figure out who makes a good source so that I can facilitate proper CR as needed and between other PCs. (Yeah it's selfish, but hey it's also IC).
Is your character moving out of assigned housing? Not yet.
Do you have any plans for this job? Kind of winging it for now, but I need to know if there's some sort of IC company/group/whatever that's similar to Milton Security that Lisbeth could find out on her own and end up as a part of that. She has no plans, as of yet, for abandoning Aria simply because Aria has/will begrudgingly give her the basic necessities: a place to live, food, and a job.

Current level + job: Yeah he just showed up so he doesn't have D:
New level + job: 1 + clinic!
How are they getting this job? Well he had the clinic before so it just seems like a thing for him to do! He told Aria of his intention here and mentioned he was going to check on his old one to Joker here. In order to get the equipment and such he needs to start up again he'll be pulling in some favors from people that owe him. It'll just be really basic at first. Mordin won't turn anyone that is hurt away but he'll likely trade favors and such if they can't pay. I talked to Larissa--him and Aria will have a deal for protection.
Is your character moving out of assigned housing? Nope!
Do you have any plans for this job? I'm just aiming to get his clinic fully functional/operational again. Maaaaaaaybe so I can get him bumped to Level 2 along the lines. Word of mouth and such will help with that. I know it'll take time.

Is your character moving out of assigned housing? nope, he likes where is. for the most part.
Do you have any plans for this job? uh basically this is going to end up being like taxi confessions. it'll be fun for everyone involved. i promise. (i'll also make sure to get permission from anyone before putting their private information on the network, don't worry.)

Current level + job: 0 I THINK
New level + job: 1 or 2????
How are they getting this job? THIS ONE. Granted, Sark's not really too terribly interested in being mercenary, he'd much prefer anything involving the trade of information, or black market goods, or basically anything that resembles what he's used to doing, which is looking for power any way that he can get it. Even if it involves kidnapping children or blowtorching his father. Anything that will make him more money, faster. However, he's equally as capable of going out and assassinating people if the merc's would be interested in having him do that. Or all of the above? He likes keeping busy & would definitely prefer having a job where people want him doing things, and also allow him to work mainly by himself, and will give him an advantage of having people knowing his name and needing him to preform specific tasks that he can hold over their heads.

Hopefully that rambling meant something? Sark has no need and doesn't care about keeping anything legal, so long as he's making money and doing things he enjoys.

Is your character moving out of assigned housing? If he's capable of doing so (and would have the funds to do it) , he'd much rather move out and find somewhere else to live.

Do you have any plans for this job? Not entirely sure yet? But i'd love to have him involved with other people doing trade, or confronting people about "business" related things and demanding payment or doing others' bidding. This might all end up just being npc'd, or something I use as my own personal plot device, but I really really want to get him involved with dirty dealings and possibly have him ~known~ for being a damn good assassin and reliable when it comes to getting shit done.

Sark also has an issue where he'll happily change alliances if it means protecting his ass, and something could be done with this as well. If his life is in danger, he will jump ship and find somebody else to help, so plot could occur with that as well, as he's more than a little bit capable of getting in trouble with people who have the means to kill him in numerous, painful ways.

Current level + job: Level 0: repair worker
New level + job: Level 1: Martial arts teacher + occasional bodyguard
How are they getting this job? After the last Adjutant event Dun realises that not everyone in Omega can fight to protect themselves. People know how to point and shoot at random, but actually fighting is a different story altogether. Dun will pick an empty apartment in Zeta District and clear that out to form a basic training area. He's lacking a lot of equipment, but he's comfortable with making them himself. He'll be making a network call to advertise his teaching services. The bodyguard job will be something he does on the side and only if he is aware that someone is in need of protection.
Is your character moving out of assigned housing? No, but he'll be grabbing one of the smaller, empty housing that's big enough for two people to live in.
Do you have any plans for this job? He just wants to earn creds and get to know the local community better.

Character journal: [personal profile] mathemagician
Current level + job: 0 | repair worker
New level + job: 1 | apprentice technician
How are they getting this job? Kengo's been trying to find a way to better understand the technology around him and he figures starting with omni-tools is the best way to go. After all, his Kaban is essentially a clunkier version of an omni-tool. He has experience buildings things, refining them, and is always extremely thorough about his work. He's aiming to work for an NPC salarian representing Ariake Technologies. While Kengo will primarily work with omni-tools, he'll also gain a better understanding of armor/weapons (at least the ones available by this shop.)
Is your character moving out of assigned housing? Nope!
Do you have any plans for this job? Kengo's primary aim is to better understand the system on his own and getting enough credits to spare so he can start researching/building things on his own. The handful of technology goals he has right now are to better understand the encryption system or mass-pinging for emergencies and alert messages, as well as tracking people and keeping a constant line of communication up. He would also like to build a reconnaissance (and/or potentially combat) device that can be hooked up and operated by his omni-tool, since his Kaban is far too clunky for how much fighting he's needing to do during emergencies.

New level + job: 1 + courier boy
How are they getting this job? I don't know what's a likely path as far as the setting goes, but I'd like to have Marco doing low level courier work, mostly stuff like delivering messages in hardcopy (encrypted disk, whatever) in ways that won't get traced over the network, or pushing around small packages that need to get moved without drawing a lot of attention. By being a kid who spends most of his time just loitering about, he's not likely to be a target for anyone trying to pick him off for having anything valuable. He could start off passing notes for (insert merchant here) and work his way up from there.
Is your character moving out of assigned housing? nah
Do you have any plans for this job? For the most part, Marco's going to be doing it to make quick change here and there, but he is pro at getting in over his head through sheer bad luck; delivery work gets riskier if you start delivering more important stuff. There's also potential for him to get caught up in paranoid message sniping wankery, and maybe eventually political nonsense if he gets mixed in with the wrong right crowds. It would be cool if he ended up dealing with a lot of secrets and industrial espionage, and having to build his own network of messengers to move stuff around.

Do you have any plans for this job? Just her normal thievery. I would like her to be able to have a store of cash she can give to any 'new comers' in serious need. This is part of why, despite being who she is, the job is level 1, as she isn't keeping the profits herself or making a name for herself.

How are they getting this job? Since he arrived Dirk's been learning about the technology on Omega, specifically the omni tool. He's already very adept with machinery, but up until now he's just been collecting any parts and equipment he can get his hands on, and has set up shop in his apartment. Mainly, he'll be advertising himself through word of mouth and public networks, but he's capable of doing odd jobs for business owners and perhaps slightly shady individuals.
Is your character moving out of assigned housing? Nope.
Do you have any plans for this job? To further familiarize him with the local technology and gain experience working with it, as well as simply to get him out and doing stuff.

Character journal: [personal profile] neverknocks
Current level + job: 0; repair worker
New level + job: 1; bartender
How are they getting this job? York's tired of the menial repair work, and the security racket was only meant to be a short-term thing anyway, so she's basically going to a bar/club and saying HEY SO YOU SHOULD GIVE ME A JOB. Sometimes York actually is good with people. She'll be doing pretty much the usual bartending duties, including diffusing the occasional bar fight if one breaks out.
Is your character moving out of assigned housing? no
Do you have any plans for this job? York's basically looking for this job as a better-paying (and less boring) alternative to the repair work, something to give her a little more cashflow until something bigger and better comes along. It's also putting her a little more in tune with Omega's current events, and she'll probably try to use her job to scope out information on the side from time to time, since she knows it's a good position to be in for picking up information here and there.

New level + job: 1, Blue Suns Merc.
How are they getting this job? It is still in the planning stages, but there is talk between myself and Ty/Prowl-mun ([personal profile] fun_police) on Prowl using Arcee's scout abilities to infiltrate one of the main powers of this place. So Arcee will be attempting to entice a recruiter with all the positive qualities there can be in inducting a robot into their ranks.

How well this works is up in the air. Though she certainly can shut off most of her morals to make a believable play at being willing to do dirty work.

Is your character moving out of assigned housing? Not at first, but once she gathers enough credits she will, just to have a bolthole to hide information and keep any collateral damage to a minimum if she gets caught.
Do you have any plans for this job? Covertly as stated above, this is planned as the first step to give Prowl an inside view of such a power that runs a section of Omega in a way. Mostly in gaining names, operations, habits, and such as important intel to be passed through various and likely complicated means of drop offs and judicious use of Cybertronian script, that hopefully is not automatically encoded in the Omni-tool's translation app, left on random trash or graffiti'd in out of the way places. This also means that far done the line if she does get in deep enough and something major happens in regards to the power balance of Omega, she'll be in a position to perhaps help change the balance the way Prowl wants it. Meaning she is willing to kill if it helps keep things from getting even worse; though this is a last resort scenario as assassination will pretty much mean getting the hell out of dodge if she is suspected. Or finding a good patsy is not easy to swing that is.

Overtly she is selling herself to these guys Like a cheap painted whore very heavily as both muscles and tech savvy. Being robotic she can take a lot more physical damage then most (If you discount the merry hell overload would cause if it connects) and the fact her brain is pretty much a sophisticated computer that isn't hampered by non sentience in limiting her hacking capabilities and such. She can also be a good communication center and the like. The fact she can also walk around outside without a suit can also be a selling point as she is pretty certain anyone looking for smuggling is looking for ships and not a nearly six foot being moving things. If a lot of them think she's just a really sophisticated AI/VI and thus not believe she's sentient then she will also use that to her advantage since they may have looser lips around the 'equipment'.

Do you have any plans for this job? Basically Arthur was good at hacking in his canon, and he has been learning + translating this skill to space age. He's also trained as a fighter and suspiciously good at planning. So he'd be an asset to the group, and he has no qualms smuggling or killing.

ICly it's going to let people know Arthur isn't really a good guy and I'd like to play out the ramifications of that.

How are they getting this job? open recruitment thingie
Is your character moving out of assigned housing? Haha no
Do you have any plans for this job? It's more just Karkat finding something to do. Talons seem like the best fit mostly. I'm not entirely certain he could, you know, kill someone ( imps are entirely different - they drop stuff that isn't blood and guts ). Fighting? That's cool since that's what he's been doing since he's obtained arms. Threatening people? He's pretty good at that ( in his mind anyway ). Kid's dream has always been to be this great Threshecutioner, so I don't know. Maybe this could help push that dream just a little bit, but modified.

Is your character moving out of assigned housing? Nope.
Do you have any plans for this job? He's done with the mercs, so he's looking for more honest work.
